Here we have a beautiful antique aesthetic-movement oval serving platter from Elsmore & Son (Tunstall, England) dating to 1878. Very rare piece from pattern ELS3. Brown transferware, featuring Asian stylized flower sprays interspersed with caladium leaves and bamboo, as well as butterflies, a fan, and an urn. Impressed “PG” (for Parisian Granite) on back, along with a printed T. Elsmore & Son combination registry mark for 1878. We have lots of beautiful transferware in our store, to which we add new inventory daily, and we’re always happy to combine shipping at actual cost. Approximate measurements: 15″ x 11″ Condition: Our photographs reveal the condition best — please enlarge and zoom in on them, and examine them carefully. Very fresh and clean piece, in remarkable condition for its age. No chips or cracks, with the exception of a fully-glazed, old minor firing crack at the surface, created at the factory and a part of this platter since its making 150 years ago. (See photo pointing it out, found upper left quadrant of the platter.) Front has scattered, completely colorless, scratches, the kind that can be seen when the piece is held up at just the right angle to a direct source of light. No crazing or stains. One small spot with a couple of gray/silver utensil marks in the lower right quadrant, noticeable upon close inspection — see photo highlighting the area. Overall, a very pretty, heavy-duty piece with a long life ahead of it, for display or practical use.
